About Us
Founded by Nana Piesie Kwafobea I, the visionary Nkosuo Hemaa (Queen of Development) of Apeguso Adonteng, the Ohemaa Piesie Kwafobea (OPK) Foundation is transforming lives across the Asuogyaman District of Ghana's Eastern Region. Our mission is clear: to break the cycle of poverty by empowering children and youth through comprehensive education, practical skills training, and sustainable economic opportunities. We believe that every young person deserves the chance to thrive, and we're committed to creating pathways that turn potential into prosperity.
Our holistic approach recognizes that meaningful change requires more than traditional education alone. We provide households with both formal and informal learning opportunities, complemented by hands-on training in farming, food processing, and employable skills that respond directly to community needs. These carefully designed programs equip our youth with practical tools for self-sufficiency while fostering entrepreneurial thinking and innovation. From classroom learning to agricultural training, every initiative is crafted to build both individual capacity and community resilience.
What sets OPK Foundation apart is our deep-rooted connection to the community we serve. As an organization led by local leadership and driven by authentic understanding of our people's needs, we create solutions that are both culturally relevant and economically viable. Our programmes don't just address immediate challenges—they build lasting foundations for growth, ensuring that today's investments in our youth become tomorrow's community leaders and change-makers. We work hand-in-hand with families, local institutions, and community networks to create an ecosystem where young people can flourish
We welcome partnership with diaspora communities, local organisations, and all individuals who share our vision of youth empowerment and community transformation. Whether through donations, volunteering, or strategic collaboration, every contribution amplifies our impact and extends our reach. Together, we're not just changing individual lives—we're reshaping the future of entire communities. Our work is guided by core objectives: Transparency, ensuring openness in all initiatives; Accountability, maintaining responsible stewardship to build trust; and Integrity, upholding ethical standards in every action. These principles drive our mission and define our legacy.
Our Mission
The Ohemaa Piesie Kwafobea (OPK) Foundation exists to transform lives and communities through comprehensive youth empowerment and sustainable development initiatives. Our mission is to break the cycle of poverty by providing children and young people in the Asuogyaman District with the education, skills, and opportunities they need to become self-sufficient, productive members of society. We are committed to creating pathways that connect learning with economic empowerment, ensuring that every young person has access to both formal education and practical training that prepares them for meaningful employment and entrepreneurship.
We achieve our mission through integrated programmes that address the multifaceted challenges facing our communities. Our approach combines traditional classroom education with hands-on training in agriculture, food processing, and employable skills acquisition, creating a holistic learning environment that responds directly to local needs and opportunities. By working closely with households and community networks, we ensure that our interventions are culturally relevant, economically viable, and sustainable. Our programmes are designed not just to provide immediate relief, but to build long-term capacity for growth and development within the communities we serve.
At the core of our mission lies a commitment to empowering young people to become agents of change in their own communities. We believe that true development happens when individuals are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to create positive transformation for themselves and others. Through our comprehensive approach to education and skills development, we are nurturing a generation of young leaders who will drive sustainable progress throughout Ghana and beyond. Our mission extends beyond individual empowerment to community transformation, creating ripple effects that strengthen entire households and neighbourhoods for generations to come. As we grow, we envision expanding our reach across Ghana and broadening our scope of offerings to address emerging needs and opportunities in youth development and community empowerment.

Our Founder
Nana Yaa Piesie Kwafobea I, the Nkosuo Hemaa (Queen of Development) of Apeguso Adonteng in the Asuogyaman District, also known as Sheila Declan Asante, is a visionary leader whose life has been dedicated to uplifting others through compassion and action. As a devoted mother and firm believer in personal development, she possesses an unwavering faith in people's potential to transform their circumstances when given the right opportunities. Her philosophy centres on equity whilst acting with love—a principle that guides every aspect of her leadership and community engagement. This rare ambidextrous nature, balancing strength with tenderness, drives her philanthropic work which has been an integral part of her character throughout her life.
Philanthropy has always been woven into the fabric of Nana Yaa Piesie Kwafobea's existence, flowing naturally from her deep-seated belief in human dignity and potential. Her extensive travels to significant places around the world opened her eyes to global inequalities and created an urgent calling within her to help push the less privileged towards gaining access to the most basic yet necessary aspects of life. These experiences abroad not only broadened her perspective but also strengthened her resolve to create meaningful change in her own community. She witnessed firsthand how education, skills training, and economic opportunities could transform entire communities, and this understanding became the foundation for her life's work.
In 2025, recognising the need to formalise and amplify her impact, Nana Yaa Piesie Kwafobea established the OPK Foundation to officially recognise and realise her role as a catalyst for community transformation. The formation of this NGO represents more than just an organisational milestone—it embodies her vision of having more hands on deck as she embarks on this crucial endeavour. Through the foundation, she aims to systematically address the challenges facing youth and families in her community whilst creating sustainable pathways for empowerment. Her leadership continues to inspire others to join this mission, transforming individual acts of kindness into a collective movement for lasting change.
